What is the Diversity Visa Program?
The Diversity Visa Program, also known as the Green Card Lottery, is a program that was established by the US government in 1990. It provides an opportunity for people from countries with low immigration rates to the US to obtain permanent residence in the US. The program is open to citizens of countries that have had fewer than 50,000 immigrants to the US over the past five years.
The program is administered by the Department of State and applications are accepted annually during a designated registration period. During this period, applicants must submit their application online through USA ESTA. Successful applicants will be selected randomly and notified of their selection.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for the Diversity Visa Program, applicants must meet certain criteria. Applicants must be citizens of an eligible country and must have at least a high school education or its equivalent or two years of work experience in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience.
Applicants must also pass a medical examination and demonstrate that they have no criminal record. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to support themselves and any dependents while living in the US.
Application Process
The application process for the Diversity Visa Program begins with submitting an online application during the designated registration period. Applicants must provide personal information such as name, date of birth, address, etc., as well as educational and work history.
Applicants must also submit digital photographs and pay a fee before submitting their application.
Selection Process
Once applications are submitted, they are entered into a computer-generated lottery system which randomly selects successful applicants from among all eligible entries.
Successful applicants will be notified via email or mail and will be required to complete additional steps before being granted permanent residence in the US.
