Iran visa types
Tourist Visa
The most common type of visa for visitors to Iran is the tourist visa. It allows travelers to stay in the country for up to 30 days and can be extended once for an additional 15 days. To apply for a tourist visa, you must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining, two passport-sized photos, and a completed application form. You may also need to provide proof of travel insurance.
Once your application is approved, you will receive an authorization code which you must present when applying for your visa at an Iranian embassy or consulate. The cost of a tourist visa varies depending on your nationality, so it’s best to check with your local embassy or consulate before applying.
Business Visa
If you are traveling to Iran for business purposes, you will need to apply for a business visa. This type of visa allows you to stay in the country for up to 90 days and can be extended once for an additional 30 days. To apply for a business visa, you must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining, two passport-sized photos, and a completed application form.
You may also need to provide proof of travel insurance and evidence that you are traveling on official business such as an invitation letter from an Iranian company or organization. Once your application is approved, you will receive an authorization code which you must present when applying for your visa at an Iranian embassy or consulate.
Transit Visa
If you are passing through Iran en route to another destination, you may be eligible for a transit visa. This type of visa allows travelers to stay in the country for up to 5 days and cannot be extended. To apply for a transit visa, you must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining, two passport-sized photos, and a completed application form.
You may also need to provide proof of onward travel such as flight tickets or hotel reservations in your destination country. Once your application is approved, you will receive an authorization code which you must present when applying for your visa at an Iranian embassy or consulate.
Iran eVisa
The easiest way to get a visa for Iran is by applying online through the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The eVisa system allows travelers from certain countries (including the US) to apply online and receive their visas within 3-5 working days without having to visit an embassy or consulate in person. To apply for an eVisa, applicants must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining and two passport-sized photos. Applicants must also provide proof of travel insurance and evidence that they are traveling on official business such as an invitation letter from an Iranian company or organization.
Iran eVisa, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is valid for 30 days from the date of issue and can be extended once for an additional 15 days.
