P Visa | Artist, Athletes and Entertainers Visa
P Visa Overview
The P visa is a nonimmigrant visa that allows foreign nationals to enter the United States temporarily for the purpose of performing as an artist, athlete or entertainer. It is available for individuals who are coming to the US to perform at a specific event or series of events, such as a concert tour or sporting competition.
The P visa is divided into three categories: P-1A (for athletes), P-1B (for artists and entertainers) and P-2 (for performers). Each category has its own set of requirements and restrictions, so it’s important to understand which one applies to your situation before applying.
Documents Required
In order to apply for a P visa, you must submit certain documents with your application. These include proof of your identity, proof of your qualifications as an artist or athlete, and evidence that you will be performing in the US for a specific event or series of events.
You may also need to provide additional documents depending on your particular situation. For example, if you are applying for a P-1A visa as an athlete, you may need to provide evidence of your international recognition in your sport.
Application Process
The first step in applying for a P visa is filing Form I-129 with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This form must be accompanied by supporting documentation and the appropriate fee.
Once USCIS has approved your application, you can then apply for a USA ESTA. This is an electronic travel authorization that allows you to enter the US without having to obtain a traditional visa from a US embassy or consulate.
Visa Validity
P visas are generally valid for up to five years, although they can be extended if necessary. The length of validity depends on the type of activity you will be engaging in while in the US.
It’s important to note that the P visa does not allow you to stay in the US permanently. You must leave when your authorized period of stay expires or when your activities have been completed.
