Types of Visas
There are several types of visas available for Ethiopia, depending on your purpose of travel. The most common types of visas are tourist visas, business visas and transit visas. Tourist visas are valid for up to 90 days and allow visitors to explore the country and its attractions. Business visas are valid for up to 30 days and allow visitors to conduct business activities in Ethiopia. Transit visas are valid for up to 48 hours and allow travelers to pass through Ethiopia while en route to another destination.
In addition, there are also special types of visas such as diplomatic visas, student visas and work permits. Diplomatic visas are issued to foreign diplomats and government officials who are traveling on official business. Student visas are issued to foreign students who wish to study in Ethiopia. Work permits are issued to foreign nationals who wish to work in Ethiopia.
Application Process
The application process for an Ethiopian visa is relatively straightforward. Applicants must fill out an online application form and submit it along with the required documents such as a valid passport, two passport-sized photographs and proof of financial means.
In some cases, applicants may also be required to provide additional documents such as a letter of invitation from an Ethiopian host or sponsor, proof of medical insurance coverage or a copy of their flight itinerary. Once the application is approved, applicants will receive their visa via email within 3-5 business days.
Fees
The cost of an Ethiopian visa varies depending on the type of visa and the length of stay. Tourist visas cost $50 USD for single entry and $70 USD for multiple entries. Business visas cost $100 USD for single entry and $150 USD for multiple entries.
Transit visas cost $20 USD for single entry and $30 USD for multiple entries. All fees must be paid online using a credit card or PayPal account.
E-Visa
Ethiopia now offers an e-Visa service which allows travelers from eligible countries to apply for their visa online.
The e-Visa is valid for up to 90 days and can be used for both tourism and business purposes. Applicants must fill out an online application form and submit it along with the required documents such as a valid passport, two passport-sized photographs and proof of financial means.
