DV Lottery Statistics
Number of Applicants
The Diversity Visa Program, also known as the Green Card Lottery, is an annual lottery program that allows people from certain countries to apply for permanent residence in the United States. Every year, millions of people around the world apply for this program. In 2020, there were a total of 22 million applications submitted.
The number of applicants has been steadily increasing over the years. In 2019, there were 20 million applications, while in 2018 there were only 18 million applications. This shows that more and more people are interested in applying for the DV Lottery.
Countries of Origin
The majority of applicants come from countries with low immigration rates to the United States. The top five countries with the most applicants are Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Iran, Nepal and Nigeria. Together they account for nearly half of all applications. Other countries with high numbers of applicants include India, Pakistan, Egypt and Ukraine.
Applicants must be citizens or nationals of one of these eligible countries in order to apply for the DV Lottery. If you are not a citizen or national of any of these countries, you may still be able to apply for a USA ESTA.
Selection Process
Each year, 50,000 visas are available through the DV Lottery program. The selection process is random and based on a computer-generated lottery draw. All entries are assigned a unique number and then randomly selected by a computer.
Winners are notified by mail or email. Those who have been selected will receive instructions on how to proceed with their application for permanent residence in the United States.
Benefits
Winning the DV Lottery can provide many benefits. It gives individuals from certain countries an opportunity to live and work in the United States permanently. It also provides access to better education and job opportunities than what is available in their home country.
Winning the DV Lottery can also provide access to healthcare benefits, such as Medicare and Medicaid, which can help cover medical expenses that would otherwise be too expensive for individuals from certain countries.
