What is the DV Lottery?
The Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, also known as the Green Card Lottery, is a program that provides up to 55,000 visas each year to people from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. The program was created by Congress in 1990 and is administered by the U.S. Department of State.
The DV lottery is open to citizens of certain countries who meet certain eligibility requirements. If selected, applicants are granted permanent residency in the US and can live and work in the country indefinitely.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the DV lottery, applicants must be a citizen of an eligible country and meet certain educational or work experience requirements. Applicants must have either a high school education or two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience.
In addition, applicants must pass a background check and medical examination before they can be approved for a visa.
Application Process
The application process for the DV lottery is relatively simple and straightforward. Applicants must complete an online form on USA ESTA, which includes basic information such as name, date of birth, address, etc., as well as answers to questions about their education and work experience.
Once the application has been submitted, applicants will receive a confirmation number which they can use to check their status online. Selected applicants will then be contacted by email or mail with instructions on how to proceed with their visa application.
Selection Process
The selection process for the DV lottery is random and based on luck; there is no way to increase your chances of being selected. Each year, millions of applications are received from around the world and only 55,000 are selected.
Applicants who are not selected will need to reapply each year if they wish to be considered again.
